April Raftery

I completed my PhD in the Department of Immunology at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia) in 2023 under the supervision of A/Prof Margaret Hibbs. My PhD focused on mechanisms underpinning chronic inflammatory lung disease from two perspectives; (1) neonatal origins of disease, and (2) influence of comorbid inflammatory bowel disease. This work identified a role for activated eosinophils in the neonatal lung in driving alveolar macrophage dominate lung inflammation which persisted into adulthood.

In 2023 I joined the Lloyd Lab as a Postdoc. My current research investigates the immune-neuro-stromal communications in asthma with a specific focus on type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), fibroblasts, and extracellular matrix (ECM).
